Velvet Obsession

Thursday, January 30, 2014

I have a long standing crush with velvet. The obsession began long ago in the mid 90s when I would buy any velvet clothing item I could get my hands one. Something about that soft, rich fabric just makes me immensely happy. So I was thrilled to see velvet back in stores this winter.

Around Halloween, I picked up an unfortunate velvet piece at Savers to use for a Halloween costume.

Here it is, in all its shapeless glory, in the Saver's dressing room. The fabric was glorious, despite the design. I did not want to just let it hang in the back of my closet for all eternity.

Thankfully, I have many talented friends, especially my friend Amber Taylor, who is the clothing designer for The Little Rack and an expert at re-vamping items like the above. She took this little number and created an adorable velvet skater skirt and matching crop top. We lovingly nicknamed the pieces Baby Velvet.

So, I now present you with Baby Velvet. I first paired the skater skirt with a graphic tee, leather jacket, black leather boots and bold, colorful earrings. The boots are also from my previous post. I am obsessed with them and may never take them off.

Next, I paired the crop top with a black floral maxi skirt, also made by Amber.

Want proof of my velvet obsession?

Ta da! Me, circa 1996, before I knew what a curling iron was, that glasses could be cute, and how to pose correctly in front of a camera. But, hey, I was well ahead of the velvet trend.

First Post!

Sunday, January 26, 2014

Welcome to The Gangly Goose! My first post EVER! I'm pretty excited to share with you guys some of my favorite outfits, fashions, baubles, make up, music, etc. Hope all you other gangly gooses out there find some cool outfits and fun shops to visit.

Now I present to you, my first outfit post. I've been hoarding this sweater and these boots in my closet for a couple weeks, waiting to put an outfit together and do a quick shoot to show you guys. The outfit alone is pretty simple, but the pattern on the sweater gives it a *pop* and the boots add a bit of edge. And, of course, the sweater is from one of my favorite Fayetteville boutiques, Savoir-Faire. The store is a must every time I'm in the NWA area.

Enjoy.

Sweater - Savoir-Faire , T-shirt - J.Crew Factory , Blank NYC jeans - Savoir-Faire (also found here ), Boots - Dolce Vita , Lighter necklace - Garnett Jewelry (similar here ) , Necklace - J.Crew , Clutch - Vintage, Tube rings - Beehive Boutique and Etsy

What do you do when your husband is taking pictures of you? Do a little jig, of course.

Cheers,

Carol
