Fall Trend: Blanket Scarves

Sunday, November 2, 2014

Blanket scarf - Brina Box
Faux leather jacket - RD Style from Dillard's (last season, similar here)
White tee - H&M
Moto jeans - Urban Outfitters
Boots - Dolce Vita
Bag - Urban Outfitters (found in stores, similar here)
Ear cuff - Hemline (also found here)
Lipstick - MAC lipstick in Dark Side

It finally feels like fall here in Little Rock, so I can now rock my favorite trend this season: blanket scarves. Two things that are awesome about this scarf: 1. It's reversible, with one side an adorable navy and red plaid and the other black houndstooth. 2. I purchased it from Brina Box, an online store based out of my hometown. It certainly is not difficult to support local stores when they sell something this cozy and stylish.

The rest of the outfit I styled "biker chic" with a faux leather jacket, moto jeans, and black booties. Also the ear cuff and dark red lip add a subtle edge to complete the look.

Outfit Transitions: Work, Play, Casual

Monday, September 1, 2014

Like most women, I am on a  budget. So I've found some creative ways of staying on trend while not breaking the bank. One important way is to find pieces that are versatile and work with several different outfits, like this black and white plaid checkered shirt that is PERFECT for fall. So I've decided to do a post where I show how to transition an outfit from work, play, and casual just by changing a few key pieces.

First up, the work outfit. I tied the shirt with a light pink midi skirt that I scored at Savers. I then dressed the outfit up with black pumps and a delicate necklace.

Shirt - American Eagle
Midi skirt - Savers (no, seriously! Similar here)
Necklace - J.Crew
Shoes - Dolce Vita

Now to my night outfit! I kept the shirt, added a statement necklace under the collar, and paired it with a faux leather skirt. To complete the ensemble, I added some gold accessories, plus this awesome vintage mesh gold bag I picked up just the other day.

Faux leather skirt - Forever 21
Necklace - Anthropologie (found in stores)
Mesh bag - vintage (similar here)
Bracelet - vintage
Tube rings - Etsy

To make the look more casual, I paired the skirt with a t shirt (with famous 90's super model's names on it!), and tied the plaid shirt around the waist. Then switched the heels out for gold cross front sandals, and I'm on my way!

The Laundry Room shirt - Indigo boutique in Little Rock (also found here)
Lighter necklace - similar here
Bracelet - Savers
Shoes - Dirty Laundry

Sensational City Soirée - Loverly Set the Scene Challenge

Saturday, August 23, 2014

Since getting hitched myself about a year and a half ago, I have been absolutely enamored with weddings. After planning my own and watching others close to me take that walk down the aisle to wedded bliss, I've noticed how each wedding has been so drastically different, from an urban event in a lavish building downtown, to a rustic ceremony in a barn decorated with vintage couches. Each event exuded each bride's taste and personality, from the decorations, to their dress, down to their accessories and shoes.

That's why when I was asked to participate in the Loverly Set the Scene challenge, I was more than ecstatic at the chance to plan a wedding all over again! I was given a choice of three venues: city wedding, beachside nuptials or a rustic style wedding. Then I styled the bride based on my taste with the entire site's shop at my disposal: wedding dress (of course!), shoes, accessories, you name it! And let me tell you, this was no small task. I was overwhelmed and awe struck at all the choices from their shop! My goodness, where was this site when I was planning my own nuptials?

The modern and classic feel of the urban wedding struck a chord with me, mainly since it reminds me of my favorite city, Chicago.

Sensational City Soiree

The style of this city wedding is simple, classic, elegant, yet modern. This allows the bride to make bold fashion statement. And that is exactly what this Jenny Packham dress is: a statement. The dress oozes romanticism and elegance, catching everyone's eye as she mingles with guests on the rooftop or has her first dance with her new husband. The slinky draping would make any bride feel sexy and beckons that 1920s Gatsby glamour, perfect for a city-style wedding. I completed the look with jewels on jewels on jewels to catch the light of the soft candles adorning the reception. The strappy sandals add to the delicacy of the dress. And they're Christian Louboutins. Need I say more? The head piece completes the Gatsby feel of the dress, and the clutch and bracelet tie the rest of the look together.

All you brides-to-be, check out everything else Loverly has to offer from wedding inspiration to planning tips!

Color Crush

Nicole Miller dress - Dillard's
Envelope clutch - J.Crew Factory (similar lime clutch found here)
Earrings - Maude Boutique (similar here)
Bracelet - J.Crew (similar here)
Shoes - Nordstrom Rack

I had been on the hunt for weeks for the perfect dress to wear to a friend's outdoor summer wedding earlier this month. Anyone who has ever lived in or visited Arkansas in the summer knows first hand that the temperatures can be less than comfortable, and the humidity can take your hair from perfectly coiffed to a frizzy mess in a matter of seconds. With that in mind, the dress not only had to look great but also feel comfortable. After much online perusing and window shopping, I found this gem at Dillard's here in Little Rock. The bright colors and pattern caught my eye immediately (how could it not?) and the light weight neoprene fabric allowed me to stay cool, even when dancing the night away at the reception. And you can literally pair any color with it. Any. I chose these sweet lime pointy toe pumps and lime envelope clutch to complete the look.

Here are few iPhone snap shots from the wedding:

The venue! Could not have been a more beautiful day.

The newlyweds! Congratulations, Leah and Beau!

Sequins + Fringe

Tuesday, June 24, 2014

Crop top - RiffRaff (no longer available, also found here and similar here)
Fringe skirt - Anthropologie (no longer available online, still available in stores)
Purse - Hazel's Haven (similar here)
Bracelet - vintage
Earrings - Etsy
Shoes - Jimmy Choo (similar here and here)

Nothing says fun and flirty like fringe and sequins! I had my eye on this navy fringe pencil skirt at Anthropologie for weeks, and finally bit the bullet and bought it! I couldn't be more happy with it. The skirt is surprisingly versatile, either worn with a tied up tee for a more casual feel or with a sequin crop like above. The top gives the skirt a more playful feel, so fun for a date night or drinks with the girls! I also tied the the outfit together with my favorite Jimmy Choo wedges. I've had them for years and still find myself pulling them out of my closet again and again.

Floral Kimono

Monday, May 12, 2014

Kimono - Shop Pattern on Pattern on Etsy
Striped tank - Aerie (similar here)
Vintage Levi's cut offs - Grey Dog Boutique
Shoes - Savoir-Faire (similar here)
Sunglasses - Ray-Ban
Necklace - vintage
Large stone ring - Etsy
Gold tube rings - Etsy

Have I said enough about how talented by friends are? Because my friends are super talented. Case in point, this black floral kimono with fringe that my friend Amber Taylor, owner of Shop Pattern on Pattern Etsy store, hand made for me. It's light and whimsical and instantly takes a basic striped tank and cut offs to another level.

Speaking of cut offs, I am in love these vintage Levi's I picked up at my favorite vintage store in Fayetteville, Grey Dog Boutique. I could wear them every day. OK, so maybe I wear them every day.

I also just found my new favorite pastime on every second Saturday of the month. This past weekend, I went with a friend to the South Main Vintage Market and was so amazed by all the awesome vendors and fabulous items for sale! One of my favorite finds is this vintage geometric necklace that I can't seem to get enough of.

Sping Midi

Monday, April 21, 2014

Skirt - ASOS (black and pink versions, and similar blue version)
Button up - Target
Clutch - J.Crew Factory (similar here and here)
Enamel bracelet - J.Crew factory (similar here)
Tiger bracelet - RiffRaff (also found here)
Bangle - vintage
Shoes - GUESS

It's finally SPRING, which means it's time for COLOR! I have been waiting to pull this light and flirty blue pleated midi skirt out of my closet. The pretty turquoise color looks so playful with bright button up and clutch. And since midi skirts are a bit longer in length, I paired it with nude pumps to elongate the leg. Spring perfection.

Bonus pic: my dog Clementine decided to join in on the picture taking fun :)
